Dry skin does not just look unattractive, it can also cause you to itch. Whether your dry skin is due to genetics or winter weather, you can treat it and achieve a smooth and healthy complexion. Here are five  great tips for relieving dry skin.

Use the Right Cleanser

When you have dry skin, it is very important to use a cream-based cleanser to wash your face every day. A cream-based cleanser will help add moisture to your skin and make it look more radiant. You should avoid cleansers that contain perfumes or dyes, as they can irritate dry skin even further.

Pick a Rich Moisturizer

Moisturizing your skin every day is even more important when your complexion is super dry. However, a lightweight moisturizer will not do. It is important to pick a moisturizer that contains glycerin or shea butter. These ingredients will help replenish moisture in severely dry skin. Apply a moisturizer right after you get out of the shower so that it can penetrate deeper in your skin.

Avoid Hot Showers

A hot shower can feel so comforting on a cold morning, but it will not do your dry skin any favors. Very hot showers can strip all the moisture from your skin, leaving it even more dry. Keep the temperature lukewarm and try not to stay in the shower for more than 10 minutes.

Add Moisture to the Air

If the air inside your home is dry, you are more likely to dry out your skin. Luckily, you can add moisture to the air by plugging in a humidifier. If you put a couple of humidifiers throughout your home, your skin will thank you.

Do not Use Clay-Based Masks

Clay-based masks are great at deeply cleaning your pores and reducing breakouts. Unfortunately, they are not good for dry skin. A clay-based mask can zap all of the moisture from your skin, leaving it dry and flaky. If you have been getting breakouts recently, try using a honey mask instead. It is very gentle on your skin and will not dry it out. Just apply a teaspoon of honey to your skin and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes.

If you follow these helpful tips, you can give your dry skin some relief. However, if you still can't get your dry skin under control, make an appointment to see your dermatology doctor as soon as you can.
